On Thursday, June 4, the Morton Bakar Center community rallied to support Black Lives Matter in honor of the late George Floyd and countless others who’s lives tragically ended in similar circumstances nationwide.

While following all COVID-19-related safety precautions, the entire program spent the morning expressing themselves creatively by writing and making collage posters. In the afternoon, an open mic session was held where both residents and staff shared stories, prayers, thoughts, and feelings.

With a community of diverse older residents born in the 30s, 40s, and 50s, there were mentions of numerous significant events in their lifetime (civil rights movement, etc). The day concluded with a march throughout the halls singing, “We Shall Overcome.”
