Program Type: Adult Residential Facility

To Make Referrals: Our program receives referrals from all community and county providers in Ventura. We do require that members are enrolled with the VCBH team prior to admission. The majority of referrals go through Ventura County's COC (continuum of care) meeting, at which local providers discuss the best plan of action for each individual. We do require that members are enrolled with the VCBH team prior to admission, therefore, all members accepted to our program must be open to the county prior to, or upon, admission.

We are a voluntary program (not locked), meaning that potential members agree with our program policies and treatment structure before making the decision to come to the program. The members must have had no recent history of significant violence and should be able to administer medication independently (with staff monitoring). We also require that our members are ambulatory - Brighter Tomorrows is ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) approved and medical assisted devices are permitted.

# of Beds: 15

Who We Serve: Transitional age youth (TAY) and adults, aged 18 and older

Hours of Operation:

  • 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year

  • Crisis intervention is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through the crisis team, on-call staff and leadership, and the VCBH crisis team. The program director is also on-call for additional support.

About the Program: At Recovery Starship, we serve individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who have been faced with multiple acute psychiatric hospital admissions and have difficulty maintaining a residence and their independence in the community.

We use various methods to connect with and support our residents in gaining skills and reintegrating into the community. These include regularly scheduled group sessions, appointments with psychiatric and medical staff, planned outings on campus, presentations about community resources, and involving families. We also take the time to recognize our residents' achievements throughout the month. Our members nominate and vote for a "Resident of the Month" who has demonstrated our clinical approach (RCCS) and surpassed their personal goals in social engagement. The chosen resident is acknowledged during group sessions, with their name and picture displayed on the bulletin board, and they are treated to a lunch of their choice.

Recovery Starship and the Casa staff are here to support residents on their journey of recovery along with Ventura County Behavioral Health Clinical Teams. We believe “teamwork makes the dream work!”
